Tea Around the World
October 14, 2006
Wilshire Square's "Around the World Tea" was held Saturday, October 14 in
the fragrant, tropical garden of Anthony Reichardt and Carlos Ramirez'
beautiful 1930 Mediterranean Revival home. The garden holds the
distinction of receiving an award as one of the most beautiful gardens in
Santa Ana for 2006.
Early morning storm clouds were chased away by sunshine. Tea guests came
from as far away as Century City and San Diego to enjoy a lovely afternoon
of traditional high tea under the graceful canopy of trees. To the delight
of the hosts of the Wilshire Square Tea many friends of "teas past"
brought new friends to enjoy this time honored tradition.
It was a memorable and relaxing afternoon of high tea and dainties being
served on cherished china settings and antique linens accented by
centerpieces complimenting the "Around the World" theme. Honorable mention
goes to the dramatic Japanese table setting by Marcel.

Irma's
White Chocolate Apricot Scones were both decadent and scrumptious! Ricki's
rosemary shortbread "teapot" shaped cookies were too adorable to eat! The
recipe for the salad dressing was also a popular request. As you can
imagine, the sales of the Wilshire Square cookbooks were brisk after the
tea!
The selection of teas from faraway places were amazing! The Cardamon tea
from Persia was my favorite. I greedily sampled the many varieties of tea.
The generous platefuls of delicious gourmet foods and the freely flowing,
lovely hot tea pleased my heart's desire!
The gentle and relaxing strains of soft chamber music viola music
accompanied conversations between friends. The charming musician strolled
amongst the tables to greet the guests after his performance.
Two very lucky guests won large and gorgeously decorated gift baskets
filled to overflowing with boxes of exotic teas, tea cups and saucers and
gourmet treats for an at-home tea experience.
Guests expressed how much they cherish the feeling of "stepping back in
time" in this gentle neighborhood of custom built vintage Tudor Revival
Cottages and Mediterranean homes dating from the 1920's through 1940's.
The graciousness and hospitality of the residents of historic Wilshire
Square who sponsor the teas is another reason that our tea guests enjoying
coming back to our teas in the gardens year after year.
